An opportunity to pray, study, and build a community in the Sephardic tradition.

Rambam, R. Judah ha-Levi, Maran bet Yosef, Arizal..

The spiritual and intellectual giants, who were the source of classical Jewish philosophy, mysticism, and jurisprudence, are the traditions of Sepharad.

Deeply committed to the Jewish legacy, they infused our heritage with the passion and the enlightenment of the Orient, thus becoming the primary interpreters of Judaism as we know it today.

Can that unique Sephardic amalgam of intellect, spirituality, and fellowship be recaptured thousands of miles away and hundreds of years later in the bustle of Twenty-first Century Atlanta?

An unassuming house turned sanctuary on LaVista Road brings proof that the Sephardic tradition is alive, vital, thriving.

Congregation Ner Hamizrach is welcoming to all Jews both those who embrace Sephardic tradition, regardless of national origin and all Jews of other traditions who seek to partake in worship and learning.

The Strength of New Hamizrach is in its commitment to offer regular opportunities for prayer, study, and fellowship in a warm, inviting, atmosphere led by a Rav whose scholarship is equaled only by his compassion and insight.

Prayer

Ner Hamizrach conducts daily, Shabbat, and Holiday services, morning and evening, in the authentic Sephardic orthodox tradition.

Prayer is made even more inviting for newcomers and Jews of all backgrounds by the availability of texts in English. The spirited services are recited entirely aloud, enabling all worshippers to participate first hand in the prayers and to absorb the beautiful Sephardic melodies.

Study

Among Ner Hamizrachs greatest strengths is its providing of regular, accessible opportunities to study the sacred texts, interpreted by a scholar of international regard.

From a pre-Shacharit shiur in Daf Yomi to an introductory class in Kabbalah, Ner Hamizrach affords a broad range of morning, afternoon, and evening study opportunities in homes and synagogue to people at all levels of Jewish knowledge in addition to an extensive Judaic library and regular Scholar-in-Residence programs.

Community

Ner Hamizrach is proud to be a place of unpretentious warmth and welcome. No one is a stranger, but a fellow Jew, a friend. Its numerous social, cultural, and holiday activities are steeped in spirited Sephardic tradition, fellowship, and cuisine.

The congregation is equally distinguished by its sense of community service visiting the sick and homebound, engaging in charity, offering Chevra Kadisha and cemetery provisions, maintaining a mikva li-kelim.
